Volunteer Week April 6 to 12, 2014

It is Volunteer Week in Newfoundland and Labrador and this year’s theme is “…for the health of it.” Honorary Chair Dr. Andrew Furey says volunteering is literally good for the heart and lowers blood pressure. This is good news for older adults, who make an important contribution to volunteer work in our province and throughout Canada.

In 2010, older adults contributed an average of 223 hours of volunteer work annually, and in our province over half of Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans volunteered! The Office for Aging and Seniors recognizes that ambition, participation and involvement is ageless. It is no wonder that seniors in this province continue to share their wisdom, skills, and abilities which are in turn being felt in homes and communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Volunteer Week is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the great work and contributions of our volunteers. We would like to take this time to thank each of you, who have volunteered and made a difference in the lives of people throughout our province!
