Francophone immigration remains a priority!

St. John’s NL, June 29th 2015 – La Fédération des francophones de Terre-Neuve et du Labrador (FFTNL) is pleased that the provincial government has reconfirmed its commitment to increasing Francophone immigration in its new Population Growth Strategy.

Ms. Cyrilda Poirier, president of the FFTNL, explains “After making the case for the importance of this for our communities on numerous occasions to provincial authorities, we are relieved to have learned that increasing Francophone immigration is included in the Strategy,” adding, “Francophone immigration is crucial to the development and vitality of our communities, and to avoid demographic losses that would result from immigration focused only on the linguistic majority.”

The FFTNL calls on the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to establish concrete measures to encourage an increase in Francophone immigration, in particular focusing on quantitative targets for Francophones and assisting in promoting our province in Francophone countries.
