Allocution pour le lancement officiel du Réseau Justice en français de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador Speech for the official launch of the NL Francophone Justice Network

 

Je souhaite tout d'abord vous féliciter pour le lancement du Réseau Justice en français de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador.

 

I encourage you all to be diligent students of the French Language.

 

First, citizens have rights for their cases to be heard in official langue of their choice. We need lawyers and judges to decide theses cases.

 

Second, and this is important as well, an ability in French opens the door to understanding our country better and to more fully participating in its rich cultural heritage.

 

Avec la création du Réseau Justice en français, nous faisons un pas important vers l'accès à la justice pour les francophones vivant à Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador.

 

Cela est d'autant plus significatif dans un pays qui est non seulement bilingue mais également, en ce qui concerne le Québec, bijuridique.

 

À cet égard, le Canada est unique, puisqu'on y plaide des causes de droit civil en anglais et des causes de common law en français. À la Cour suprême du Canada, nous travaillons avec toutes ces variations.

 

Let me add my thanks to all those whose commitment has led to the formation of the Newfoundland & Labrador Francophone Justice Network. Be assured that in any way that I can, I'll be ready to assist you in this valuable work.
